| Welcome to Legend Video | The foremost producer of Shotokan Karate videos. |
Peter ConsterdinePeter is a 7th Dan Black Belt in Karate and a former Great Britain and England Karate International. With over 36 continuous years of martial arts training behind him, Peter has made self defence a lifetime study. Acknowledged as one of the world's hardest hitters, his techniques for delivering such massive impact are contained in the two videos - Powerstrike and Powerkick. Peter's tremendous impact through kicks and punches was originally the product of his training for many years with Shigeru Kimura of the Shukokai system, but over the years and with his door experience, Peter has amended and added to the practical application of the old 'double hip' system.
PowerstrikePeter Consterdine is acknowledged as one of the most powerful punchers and kickers in the modern martial arts world. Over many years he has developed a method of producing impact which can be as much as three to four times as powerful as traditional striking. The secret to this lies in the application of the unique ‘double hip’, allied with some other principles, which, with seemingly no effort and even at very short ranges, produce a massive shock effect. In issue 51 of the UK’s Shotokan Karate Magazine, its editor John Cheetham described being hit by one of Peter’s punches:- One of the hardest punches I have ever experienced was delivered by a former student of Sensei Kimura - Peter Consterdine, who is based in the North of England. I was holding two very thick striking pads in front of my chest and Peter demonstrated his gyaku zuki with tremendous effect. I felt like I’d been hit by a train! I think an untrained person could have suffered whiplash from the force of the blow and he was definitely not giving it 100%! Over the years, Peter has developed the ‘Powerstrike’ system to deal with ‘street’ encounters, but the system revolutionises impact in martial arts and can be adapted to most systems. The ‘Powerstrike’ system develops the natural dynamics of the body, so that strength is not a requirement, rather the power comes from the natural transmission of body weight. These principles have been adapted into a range of ‘Pre-emptive Strikes’ producing a ‘One Shot’ knockout blow.
PowerkickRevolutionise the effectiveness and power of your kicking with the Powerkick System. Peter Consterdine recounts: When I started working on the doors in the early ‘70’s, I realised that traditional karate techniques worked poorly without major alterations. I also realised that the impact one could achieve with the ‘handed down for years’ techniques (that people who practice martial arts never seem to question), was woefully inadequate, given the many compromises which the situation produced. This might be stance, space, proximity to opponent, multiple opponents, alcohol, fear, etc. Over many years, Peter has developed these principles, adding much of the Chinese internal systems to ensure that relaxation within the technique remained. The result has been that only ‘one shot’, either strike or kick is all that is needed to finish a street confrontation. Even at close range, the Powerkick system allows massive impact to be effortlessly channelled through kicks, knees and sweeps. In the street, kicking is one of the most dangerous techniques to perform dangerous to the kicker that is. Most martial artists falsely believe that kicking skills will be the answer to street confrontations, which sadly, couldn’t be further from the truth. Kicking can have a role in defence, but you must ensure you only learn from people who have been there and not someone who has ‘invented’, from the relative safety of their own Dojo and imagination, what will happen in real life. This second video in the ‘Power’ series will show you how to safely use kicks as a legitimate weapon in the street should the threat dictate this level of force response.
Pavement Arena 1THE ULTIMATE SELF DEFENCE VIDEOS This video is the first in a series of hard-hitting self defence videos. The myth of traditional martial arts working in the street is exposed once and for all. This dynamic video, which teaches many workable street techniques, is the first in a series of instructional videos by two of Britain’s leading exponents of Self Protection – Peter Consterdine and Geoff Thompson. This series was written and produced by Peter Consterdine. In street confrontations there are no bells, flags, whistles or referees. There is just you, your opponent or opponents, together with fear and a ‘chemical cocktail’. In these circumstances traditional martial arts in all their complexity may not be the perfect answer. The title of the series is taken from the book of the same name by Geoff Thompson, who has gone on to write many books on the subject of self protection and the practical application of martial arts to self defence. Both Geoff and Peter had to make their techniques work over many years of door work and each portrays the real truth about close quarter combat. Years of training in not only Karate, but boxing, wrestling, Wing Chun and other systems, all come together in the making of this series.
Pavement Arena 2This video deals with the harsh realities of combat in the street. For the first time a Self Defence video shows clips of a real fight. The ‘Protection Pyramid’ is a graphic and visually illustrative way of presenting the complex problems and solutions of self protection. The Protection Pyramid continues the ‘no nonsense’ theme established in part one of this series and with re-constructed ‘street attacks’, the viewer can see clearly the reality of how traditional, unabridged martial arts systems will not work in such confrontations. Each section of the pyramid illustrates a separate concept and build up to a comprehensive system for defensive tactics. This video does not only cover the physical aspects of self defence, but tackles the often forgotten aspects such as fear and how not to be psyched out by opponents. Often a fight is won before the battle takes place and the Protection Pyramid will help you develop the ‘winning attitude’ and control of fear and ‘psyching out’. The very complex subject of multiple opponents is dealt with in a simple way which provides a ‘survivable’ solution to the problem. Some of the aspects of personal security are touched on, as is awareness, but this is dealt with in depth in the book ‘Streetwise’ and the forthcoming video.
Pavement Arena 3Being able to grapple is an integral part of any self defence training. The title of this video does, however, tell the real truth about the role of grappling in street situations. Basically, you cannot afford to get into a grapple which puts both of you on the floor, but if you do then you must know how to grapple and how to recover from the situation. Once you have become involved in grappling with an opponent on the ground, you are there an eternity There is no going back to a distance at which you feel more comfortable. But you must know how to grapple to beat those people more skilled in other areas. Peter Consterdine says: Over the past few years, particularly with the advent of the UFC, grappling has enjoyed a revival. Don’t think though that being good at grappling will make you good in the street. If going to ground is your first option then you are going to have big problems. Grappling skills should be sufficient enough to raise confidence if you do go to the ground, but not enough that you would want to stay there and work. There should be enough skills to overcome the panic and freeze that grips people who have not come from a grappling background. Grappling will win fights, but there are great dangers involved, particularly with multiple opponents. Know how - watch this tape.
Pavement Arena 4This video shows the variety of physical training and fighting drills needed to win in the street. Be ‘Fit To Fight’. Don’t rely on technique, develop that mental edge. This video is the fourth in video in the Pavement Arena series and from which the book ‘Fit To Fight’ was taken. If you have the book, then this video is a must. This video dynamically teaches you how to develop that mental edge and will to win through hard training skills. If you are in any doubt, having read the book, as to how the various drills should be performed then this video is for you. Self Defence is not simply about technique, but equally about turning fear into aggression. For most people, aggression is a difficult emotion to switch on and off at will. Fear takes hold without you doing anything, but aggression can seem sadly lacking at the times we most need it. You need to be fit and strong to win a fight, but more importantly, you have to develop the ‘will to win’ the aggression never to give up and never to lose. This mental edge is developed through hard training drills. It does not happen overnight. This video shows you how to train for strength, stamina, aggression and that mental edge. There are detailed training schedules you can simply adopt or adapt to your current programmes. There are drills for one or more people. As well as instructional, this video is highly motivational. The feedback has been tremendous and it has revolutionised the way people now train.
Fit to Fight - Part 2This video follows on from the success of ‘Fit To Fight’ in the Pavement Arena series. By popular demand, this latest release looks at training drills for the solo trainer. Many people don’t always have the benefit of training partners and this video provides a complete workout for the martial artist who may train on his or her own. Also shown is how all this work comes together on the focus pads, punch bags and shields, with some of the most dynamic group training seen on video. All programmes are now available on DVD and VHS. Peter Consterdine productions can be purchased as a single DVD with one programme (£27.49 worldwide) or additional programmes can be added at £15 each - up to a maximum of 4 - the total cost being £72.49.
